Introduction
The shootout format consist of 5 races, where the bottom 5 boats are knocked out after each race. The last race is a final between 5 boats, and usually the knocked out boats remain as spectators. The winner of the race is the one with fewest points overall. The 5 races are weighted so that the current race has the same weight as all the previous races combined.
The first race prestart will begin at 20:30 CET/CEST sharp. Boats absent at this time may lose their slot to boats on the waiting list. No restarts for late arrivals. A warm up prestart for the first race will be done 20:26. Each race will last around 20 minutes from start line to finish line, which means the whole regatta will be completed in 2.5 hours. The results of the regatta will by uploaded to the SNR and ELO system after each race.
The VSK server password for the race is shootout

Reserve an entry to the regattas by reacting (like, reply etc.) to the regatta announcement post in the shootout-regattas channel on Discord. The first 25 to register are guaranteed a spot. Additional entries will be on a waiting list. Enter the race server as spectator before the first race to take a spot from a no-show or to join if the regatta is not full.
Code of conduct
You are eligible to participate in this regatta if you are among the fair sailors of Virtual Skipper. You have good knowledge of the racing rules of sailing and you value fair sailing very high.
If there has been contact between boats, then at least one boat has broken the rules and shall take a penalty. If you cancel a penalty which requires contact (usually 11, 12, 15, 16 and 18) and no boats take a penalty turn, then it is expected that a protest is filed after the race, or a boat is voluntarily retiring. Submitting a protest takes only 2 minutes and is simply done by posting in the elo-protests channel on Discord.
Not taking a clear and obvious penalty is a violation of rule 2, fair sailing. Violations of rule 2 may result in rejection from future regattas.
History
The Valhalla Shootout regatta was originally hosted by NOR Team, which is using elements from the Viking age on skin design etc, and that's where the name comes from. Valhalla is the place where Vikings who died in battle were sent, a big hall with unlimited amounts of food and drinks. And that's where we are sending the 5 skippers who are shot out from each race of this regatta...
The default shootout courses are the ones with a western theme, created by Goffe. These and previous courses are available in the NOR Team course folder. The courses to be used will be announced by the host on Discord.
Sailing Instructions
The regatta can have up to 25 boats and will last for up to 5 races.
20 boats will advance to race 2. 15 to race 3. 10 to race 4. 5 to race 5. If a boat that is qualified to sail in a race does not show up on the water, then the next boat in line may race.
The boats are ranked by the sum of points in ascending order. The score in the final is used to break any tie between the finalists.
The points for each race are the finishing position (base points) multiplied with the weight factor listed above the race column on the scoreboard. The weight factors are as follows:
• Race 1: ⅛
• Race 2: ⅛
• Race 3: ¼
• Race 4: ½
• Race 5: 1
Other than finishing position, base points are given as shown below:
DNF: Number of boats starting in a race
DNS: Number of boats starting in a race +1
RET: Number of boats assigned to a race +1
DSQ: Number of boats assigned to a race +1
DNE: Number of boats assigned to a race +1
DNC: Number of boats assigned to a race +2
Unless the regatta host announces differently, the regatta rules are the complete racing rules of sailing, except when not relevant for VSK. Well known adjustments for VSK applies in addition to the following points:
If VSK gives a penalty for a rule that requires contact (11, 12, 15, 16 and 18), then it will be considered as contact even if a replay does not show any contact, except if there was extra ordinary lag involved.
Information on the rules panel (top right corner of the VSK window) shall be regarded as correct for what tack a boat is on, and overlap status, except when two boats are clearly overlapped indirectly through a third boat
RRS 20.2(c) is changed as follows: If the conditions in RRS 20.1 are met, the hailed boat shall respond either by tacking as soon as possible, or
write "You tack" / "YT" / "T" in the chat or,
if she is able to, wait until the hailing boat begins her tacking manoeuvre,
and then giving the hailing boat room to tack and avoid her.
The hail in RRS 60.2(a)(1) shall be replaced by "P <boatname>" or "Protest <boatname>" written in the race chat. Another identifying word may be used instead of the boatname. If the hail is for a situation the hailing boat was part of, it is not necessary to add a name to the hail.
A request for cancellation is to be considered as a hail for protest by default from any competitor in the race. This changes RRS 60.2(a)(1).
A penalty from VSK is to be considered as a hail for protest by default from any competitor in the race, but only with respect to RRS 2. This changes RRS 60.2(a)(1).
Protests
Announce your intention to protest in the race chat right after the race. Submit the protest or request redress by posting in the elo-protests channel on Discord. A protestee may respond to the protest in the same channel.
The protest time limit is 60 minutes after finishing the last race of the day.
A redress will not change the fact that you may have been eliminated from further races, but it may change the result in the actual race.
Protests will be looked at after all the races are sailed, unless it is time for it before the next race (i.e. not exceeding the 30 minutes time quota for a race).
If a boat is DSQ'ed in a race after the regatta, she will be scored DNC in all the following races on the Shootout scoreboard, but here individual race scores will be valid for ELO race.
The protest committee consist of Harald/euphoria and whoever he may appoint.
A boat that disconnects during a race will get a wildcard in the following race if she had passed the first mark, and she was in top 50% of the qualifying part of the fleet.
